You've heard the benefits of hot yoga: flexibility, balance, stress relief. After 40 years of yoga, I want to share my yoga insights, experiences and tips to get you started or recharged – hey, just get going, with yoga. You're not too old, too stressed, or too busy – you're ready to reclaim your life.
I started practicing yoga at age 15, circa 1972 BC: Before Cool. Years later, I became addicted to hot yoga - 26 postures in a room heated to 105 degrees with 40% humidity. The dripping sweat, the scorching heat, the endless loads of laundry. THAT was cool! Today I have a busy modern life as a wife, mother, entrepreneur. What I don't have is back pain, joint problems, I've never even had tooth decay! I have youthful flexibility and straight posture that makes people double-take when I say my age. Yoga can change you right now. You are never too old, too sick, too depressed or too late find out how. The secret of getting the benefits of yoga is simple: just do it.
Love it. When I started doing Yoga I felt exactly like that. Granted I’m a large man at 6’4″ and not so flexible so it was pretty ugly but now I embrace yoga and it has helped me in all areas of my fitness. I can’t wait to try a hot yoga class.
A friend convinced me to try yoga on a paddle board. I said “why not,” but was second guessing as we floated in the marina, while tons of people watched our every pose. I felt good and confident, until doing a crow pose – then proceeded to tumble on my head, the board and right into the water. Onlookers gasped, some laughed, but none louder than me.
After that, somehow I just rarely seem to get embarrassed.
Look at those spandex leotards and tights! So dated!
But the issues are not…laughter is so essential to my hot yoga practice, and when I’m teaching I want my students to have fun – through the challenges and confrontations.
As a student, one of my teachers told a story about appearing as a dancer in a Beavis and Butthead video – she stood right in front of me and did an impression that had me roaring with laughter. It was the best class I’ve ever taken!
Sad I cant watch the video. I am sure its funny Laughter does heal by distraction, it is being used more and more in the health care profession to help people who suffer from a variety of ailments.
Haha! Love to laugh. In fact, just heard a great quote last night:
Thanks for sharing.
How did you know I just needed a good laugh today? Loved the breathing–he was just too funny.

Great story! Yoga teachers should never underestimate the power of a good laugh to get your students loose
The best part of the video was the breathing…the guy infusing the woman with his “breath” had me laughing so hard I couldnt catch mine
How cool is that – yoga cured you of embarrassment forever!
Hi Al – If only dates were as relaxed as a yoga class…maybe you’re onto something but my gut tells me that not, farting on a date just won’t cut it.
Laughter is great – it releasing the tension especially in a hot yoga room. Couldn’t watch the video, however I am sure it was good!
What a great clip! I love Roseanne! Their outfits were hilarious. Thank you for giving me a great laugh this evening
Nothing better than a good fart to break the ice.
Do you think it works on a date?
